Sonamasuri brown rice is one of those rich rice varieties that bring pride to the country. Grown in the Southern region of India, this rice is versatile and can be used to prepare almost all rice recipes. A hybrid of sona and masuri rice species, it has an invigorating aroma and an unforgettable flavour.

Sonamasoori brown is unpolished brown rice and is different from white rice. Brown rice has many benefits, it’s high in fiber and reduces the body’s sugar and cholesterol levels. Brown rice has the germ, bran and endosperm and so has more nutrients as compared to white rice. According to various research, it contains good amount of fibres as well even after cooking i.e. around 2 gms/100 g of cooked brown rice.

BROWN RICE PULAO

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup brown basmati rice
  • 1 medium potato
  • 1/2 small capsicum ( green pepper)
  • 1 green chilli
  • 1/4 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 and 1/4 cup Water
  • salt As required
  • 1 tablespoon ghee
  • 1/2 handful coriander leaves
  • 1 medium onion
  • 2 and 1/2 bean
  • 2 tablespoon peas
  • 1 clove
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic
  • 1 cinnamon
  • garam masala powder As required
  • 1/2 medium carrot

Method

Step 1

To make this healthy pulao recipe, wash the rice soak them in water for some time.

Step 2

Meanwhile, heat the ghee in the pressure cooker over a medium flame and add the cumin seeds and let them splutter. Next, add the cinnamon sticks, cloves and green chillies in it.

Step 3

Now add the onions and garlic and stir fry until they turn a little brown. Then, add the soaked brown rice and all the chopped vegetables and saute them for a while. Add the garam masala and salt as per your taste. Mix them well.

Step 4

Pour in 2 cups of water. Close the lid and pressure cook for 4 whistles.

Step 5

Turn off the flame and transfer the Brown rice pulao to a serving bowl. Then, garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot.
